From Oslo to Bergen, to the Stunning Coastal Architecture of Ålesund, Then Back To Stonington for July 4th

I recently returned from an incredible journey through Norway, and I’m still feeling inspired by the sheer beauty of Scandinavia.

My travels took me from the vibrant energy of Oslo, Norway to the historic wharf of Bergen, and up to the stunning coastal architecture of Ålesund.

Every town had its own incredible character, but the real magic happened out on the road.

Driving through the dramatic landscape of the Geirangerfjord was absolutely breathtaking, and navigating the famous, winding hairpin turns of the Trollstigen (the Troll Ladder) is something I won’t soon forget.

It is a spectacular country, and if you ever have the chance to visit, I highly recommend putting it at the top of your travel list.

But as wonderful as it is to explore the world, there is nothing quite like the feeling of turning the corner back into our own beautiful village.

There is an old saying that travel makes you appreciate home even more, and that was certainly true this week as we transitioned straight from the fjords of Norway right into our favorite hometown tradition: the Stonington Borough 4th of July celebration.

Between the festive energy on Water Street and the community spirit filling the air, it is pure small-town Americana at its absolute best.

My personal favorite moment is always standing together in Wadawanuck Square for the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence immediately following the parade.

Hearing those words read aloud in the heart of our town square, surrounded by neighbors and friends, always serves as a wonderful reminder of why Stonington, Connecticut is so incredibly special.
